Know Your Physiology to Optimize Your Relational Capacities

Download my free “Know Your Physiology” guidebook to know what blood/hormone/genetic tests to get to optimize your relational wellbeing.

From age 19 to 27, I lived in chronic, low-grade to sometimes very high-grade depression, hypomania, and anxiety. I was miserable and acted strange socially because my anxiety was out of control. I was a pessimistic and negative person to be with. I couldn’t make eye contact with anyone for more than a second at a time and I tried multiple kinds of therapy and medications during those years, with no relief.

But when I was 27 I finally found a naturopathic doctor who was informed well enough to test my testosterone, vitamin D and zinc levels, adrenal function, and different genetic metabolic conditions. All of those things were out of whack so severely that in only a few months' time of supplementation, my depression and anxiety became almost unnoticeable. I was a different person - optimistic, energized, and very present once my physiology was fixed. It makes me wonder how many people who struggle with mood stability, anxiety, ADHD, and other such obstacles to their ability to offer someone else a stable, predictable, non-chaotic self - who, have never had aspects of their physiology tested. Factors which are known to have pronounced effects on how we feel in our bodies and how we present to the world. It’s part of why I got my degree in holistic nutrition.

Literally every friend, client, and partner who I’ve inspired to get my recommended battery of blood tests - which are by the way usually mostly covered by insurance - they have at least 1 thing out of whack which is creating a form of dis-ease in that person’s life and relationships. Women have slightly different physiologies during their menstrual, follicular, ovulatory, early or late luteal, or pre-menstrual phases which can affect their behavior, personality, and perceptions which can be optimized. So many women I’ve worked with have either an autoimmune, hormone imbalance, low omega-3 index, MCAS and POTS, or a metabolic disorder such as the MTHFR gene mutation causing them needless grief and suffering.

Men can have most all that too long with a lack of the ability to feel their emotions, propensity for low-grade adrenal fatigue, dopamine dysregulation, and other neurotransmitter imbalances that will literally change your character from happy and easy-going into chronically angry, upset, and distracted and you will believe you are simply being yourself and it’s the world that has changed.

I believe everyone owes it to themselves and to those around them to be well informed with recent data about their physiological balance or imbalance. When it comes to high quality love, think of physiology first, then work your way down through behavioral changes.

Don’t let dis-ease destroy another beautiful relationship opportunity.

"Love, as your body sees it, is a micro-moment of positivity resonance... a synchrony between your and the other person’s biochemistry and behaviors. Love is something we should re-cultivate every morning, every afternoon, and every evening—it makes you, the other person, and the bond you share physically healthier." — Dr. Barbara Fredrickson
